Here are the 10 most effective tricks that casinos use on their players without them knowing:
No. 10 – They don’t have any clocks on their walls
If you don’t wear one around your wrist, don’t rely on the fact that you’d find one inside the casino. Their whole purpose is to not allow you to be punctual. You know that saying “time flies when you’re having fun”? They wish to keep you as engaged in your games as possible, be it slots, table games or any other kind of casino game. Most players who visit casinos are usually on vacation and try to escape their daily routine. Thus, spending more time at the casino than they’ve initially planned is in the casino’s interest.Time-Flies-Clock-10-11-2006
While some take advantage of your unawareness, the UK for example has laws stating that players must be encouraged to take breaks form playing every once in a while.
But who are they to interrupt you when you’re having fun, right?
No. 9 – They don’t have any windows
New-Casino-Interior-PictureWe’re certain you’ve noticed that casinos feature no windows. It’s not a construction glitch, don’t worry – they simply want to keep you engaged without any interruption from, oh, you know, the fact that you’ve been there for a super-long time. This method goes hand in hand with the no clocks one.
No. 8 – Inside distractions: Lights, Sounds and Activity
Ah, the Las Vegas lifestyle! All those flashing lights, bell rings, slots spinning, digital beeping sounds made by other machines – captivating, isn’t it? If you agree, then it worked! This is the casino’s non-verbal communication method that simply screams “WIN!”. This overall joyful environment where you feel that everyone is winning is meant to lead you off the trail – most of them are in fact losing.Casino Jackpot 300X225
For example, have you ever heard a negative sounding song coming from a slot machine after a loss? We didn’t think so! The music is still joyful and, let’s face it, so is your mood!
No. 7 – The ambiance
The dim lights in a casino aren’t a way through which they save on their electricity bill. It’s a way to make you feel like at home, like everyone is friends with anyone, that you’re safe and cozy.
CasinoThe carpets aren’t randomly picked out either. The designs are meant to create a powerful impact, to mesmerize you with what in real life would be a really tacky design and way-too-colorful patterns.
Does it sound familiar? It must, because shopping venues use the same technique.
The spotless look of casinos is also part of their method to make you feel like royalty, like you’re special to them and that you’re being pampered.
No. 6 – Service location
Screen Shot 2010-02-09 At 10.37.49 AmIf you’ve been inside a casino at least once, then you’ve certainly noticed how far placed are the restrooms, restaurants or any other service for that matter.  The purpose is to make you walk through the casino, pass by a lot of very tempting games and machines. This way, maybe on your way to cash out, you might want to give that super nice looking slot machine as try.
No. 5 – Almost a winner!
Except actually winning, there’s nothing more exciting than to be extremely close to winning! And they know that, and take advantage of that. All machines are designed to pay out very small wins in the beginning in order to provide you with the incentive you need to keep on playing. So while on the short run you win small amounts, on the medium run you almost win.
0-1Has it ever happened to you to be just one cherry away from the jackpot? You didn’t really think that was a coincidence, did you?
No. 4 – Free stuff!
Free drinks, free meals or other rather small gifts that casinos offer you are meant to make you feel lucky, important and most importantly, they’re meant to keep you coming back for more.
200288642-001.PreviewLet’s say you once visited a casino, had a nice time, and after placing a few small bets, you receive a generous coupon for a free meal. Sounds great doesn’t it? You go back, have a nice meal on the house and decide to bet just a few small amounts. So what if you lose, after all, you did get a free meal out of it, right? If this is your thought process, then the casino wins again!
No. 3 – Booze!
We could have enlisted this one under no.3 with the rest of free stuff, but we’ve decided to give it its own category since it deserves to be more widely debated.
Casino WaitressDrinks on the house are meant to influence your better judgment, relax you and keep you playing…sloppy even. When those gorgeous cocktail waitresses come offering you a drink, who would say no, right?
A drunken player is willing to spend, he’s confident and feels important. And the casino wants to keep you that way!
No. 2 – The VIP treatment
Although it’s not exactly common knowledge, small bettors are actually the ones who contribute more to a casino’s profits. They place small amounts, but they do it often.
Online Casino High RollerHigh-rollers however place generous amounts, and when they do so on a regular basis, they’re bound to win at some point! And when a big winner is in the house, it’s time for the casino to pull out the red carpet. And their VIP treatment is hard to refuse: free suits, luxury gifts, limousine rides, special treatment… Who wouldn’t want to be them, right? And when you’re spoiled like that, you don’t want to leave. If you don’t leave, then you must spend some more in order to keep on benefiting of that kingly treatment.
No. 1 – Super complicated interior design
Floor Plan 2Getting lost in a casino is no unordinary thing. They’re structured to resemble real-life mazes for a good reason: to keep you there! Lacking a logical arrangement of furniture and machines, casinos successfully keep you inside by making it difficult for you to find a way out. And if you’ve been benefiting of those special treatments mentioned at no.4 and no.3, you’re surely going to be there for quite some time.
And you wouldn’t want to get bored, would you? If you’re in there, might as well play some games.
